UNDERSTANDING AUTISM

Autism is commonly diagnosed- 1 in 100- so chances are high that you know someone with autism. A co-worker, a friend or a family member.  It is diagnosed via a spectrum- mild to severe so every person displays it differently.  There a common signs of autism when people are diagnosed including difficulty making friends, challenges with dealing with changes to schedules and communication struggles.

For example one person with autism might be able to talk. While someone else with autism might be nonverbal and need help talking.

Autism doesn't define people. We hold jobs, we live on our own, we have boyfriends/girlfriends and get married. We are just like anyone else.

A simple "hi" goes a long way for people with autism.  When someone says hi to me, it means the world.
